Abstract

Climate change Hazards Livelihood Vulnerability mapping
Climate change, a supreme worldwide dispute, which is reshaping our planet in ways that demand urgent attention and action. This chapter delves into the complex relationship between climate change and the instability of various regions, with a particular focus on coastal areas, which stand at the frontline of this environmental crisis. The mapping of vulnerability provides a powerful tool to visualize and understand the spatial distribution of climate impacts, highlighting areas most exposed to risks associated with sea level rise, intensifying storms, and shifting weather patterns. Through a detailed exploration of geographical, socio-economic, and ecological factors, this chapter presents a comprehensive approach to vulnerability mapping. It explores the ways maps can guide policy-making, disaster preparedness, and sustainable development initiatives, offering a roadmap to face an uncertain future with resilience. By integrating scientific data with community insights, this work emphasizes the importance of adaptive strategies that are both locally grounded and globally informed. Ultimately, this chapter aims to illuminate the complex dynamics of climate vulnerability and inspire innovative solutions to protect our most vulnerable regions, particularly those along the world’s coastlines. As climate change accelerates, the need for precise, actionable vulnerability mapping has never been more critical, serving as a beacon for safeguarding human livelihoods and natural ecosystems alike.
