Abstract
The last two years, during and post-pandemic, have thrown many challenges to business organizations worldwide. Its impact on SMEs has been more severe, especially the online retail SMEs (small and mediumsized enterprises), resulting in reduced profits, posing a challenge to their survival and sustainability. Emerging digital technologies like Blockchain and Internet-of-things (IoT) would strengthen the traditional supply chains of retail SMEs by providing them with paperless operations to achieve cost minimization. This chapter develops a conceptual framework for revamping retail SMEs' sustainability through interoperable and collaborative digital technologies as enablers. The systematic literature review methodology has been adopted to analyze the role of various traditional digital technologies in the supply chain, focusing on SMEs, challenges in their implementation, and finally, developing capabilities to achieve sustainability. Published works from leading journals have been considered for this research. The conceptual framework would guide retail SME owners and managers in revamping their units by redesigning their traditional supply chain through digital technology, especially blockchain technology, as an enabler. It would also open new vistas of research for academicians and researchers.
