Abstract
This chapter addresses the uneasy relationship between the concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and global environmental change. By way of mapping the drivers of global environmental decline, we highlight the problems associated with devising effective management responses under the banner of CSR. We present a critical discussion on the environmental efficacy of contemporary CSR approaches, addressing also broader conceptual questions about the suitability of CSR for dealing with messy and increasingly complex environmental problems.
