Abstract
Rapid industrial growth and urban development are taking place in Saudi Arabia, accompanied by drastic changes in the material circumstances and lifestyles of the population. One result of this is the widespread application of modern industrial technology. Most of this development has taken place without extensive environmental planning, and in some cases the knowledge-base of conditions in Saudi Arabia was less than ideally sufficient for planning purposes.
