Abstract

Myeloma is a malignant disease of the bone marrow, that provides an important role model for many other types of cancer. Although the subject of considerable research, the origins of the disease remain unclear. There has however been an explosion of interest in this disease in the past decade. The first edition of Myeloma: Biology and Management provided the first authoritative, comprehensive textbook, covering the epidemiology, immunology, and haematology of this important cancer. Since publication in 1995, several important advances have taken place in myeloma research, necessitating areview of the previous text. While bringing fully up-to-date the topics covered in the first edition, the second edition includes several new chapters; the patient and family perspective of the disease, infections in myeloma, cytogenetics, neurological complications, along with a history ofmyeloma. The book has been written and produced by the leading world-wide authorities in myeloma research.
