Abstract
Design thinking offers a promising method to create learning experiences that align with the Education 4.0 Taxonomy and build digital learning literacies. In a postgraduate Design Thinking and Educational Innovation subject, we position the use of generative artificial intelligence as an additional mechanism for making decisions about what should be created and how it should be created. Ideation is a critical stage in the design thinking process where designers engage in creative thinking and develop possible solutions to identified problems and needs. Generative AI removes obstacles to idea contribution by (1) adding to the number of ideas, (2) improving the quality of ideas, (3) reducing the time required for ideation, (4) fostering diverse thinking, and (5) curating ideas generated. Education 4.0 introduces new teaching and learning methods that are different from traditional lecture-based approaches, materials, and modes of classrooms. We elaborate on the use of innovative, design-inspired pedagogy and paradigms to emphasise and guide technology-based learning strategies essential for a rapidly changing world.
