Abstract

This chapter uses a “glonacal” framework to examine the development of a national approach to international education in Ireland during the period of austerity, which followed the financial crisis of 2008. The chapter shows that the primary driver behind this approach was an economic one, and that the primary focus was on the recruitment of more international students to Ireland. However, for the approach to be effective, agents and actions were required at the global, local, and national levels.
