Abstract
Although a small city-state, Singapore has made impressive progress towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. It has adopted a leadership position in its region with respect to sustainability efforts. The Singapore government views this positioning as crucial to the country’s future as it adapts to climate change while seeking commercial advantage from the growth in the global green economy. As this chapter will contend, although these efforts are admirable, they are also threatened by an inadequate skills base to support a shift to a low-carbon economy compounded by demographic challenges and the continued dependence on low-wage migrant labour.
