Abstract

Many utilities around the world offer a feed-in tariff as an incentive to encourage their customers to install rooftop photovoltaic systems. A feed-in tariff is designed by financial factors considering the initial cost and electricity spot price. This paper proposes a time-varying feed-in tariff which considers the value of electricity, hosting capacity, temperature and time of day, and is based on a Fuzzy logic approach. The proposed dynamic feed-in tariff can increase the penetration of rooftop photovoltaic systems in rural locations and thereby, is very helpful for utilities that experience challenges in the electrification of the remote areas or excessive stress on their networks. The performance of the proposal is validated by numerical analysis for multiple locations across Australia.
