Forum on Biosolids Management and Utilization (Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong, 08/09/2000)

Abstract
Organic waste solids (sludge) are produced by wastewater treatment processes. When the solids are stabilised and can be used beneficially, they are referred to as biosolids. The disposal of biosolids generated during wastewater treatment is a growing problem in Australia (Varjavandi 1991) and worldwide (Yanko 1988). Biosolids production in Australia during 1996-97 was estimated to be 203,000 dry tonnes (Carpenter 1998) and is expected to increase with time.
