Abstract
Throughout the world there are numerous agencies that collect information on appropriate technologies for application within country, for international usage and third world settings. However the situation in remote Australian Aboriginal communities is unique, requiring a selective data base of information that fits their circumstances.
The Remote Area Developments Group (RADG) has been developing, in conjunction with the Department of Aboriginal Affairs (DAA), such a computer formatted data base. There are four stages to the project:
a. Identifying the topics for data collection
b. Development of software to be user-friendly on the existing IBM compatible machines used by the DAA.
c. Collection and entry of data.
d. Trial period to determine areas for improvement
To date the first two stages have been complete with work proceeding on the third stage - that of collecting and entering data.
