Abstract

This paper examines the problem of congestion in asymmetric network links that feature limited reverse path bandwidth. A strategy of priority queuing TCP Acknowledgements is trialled on a low bandwidth link in an attempt to enhance the forward TCP throughput. To prevent the prioritised TCP Acknowledgements from saturating the link they are subjected to rate limiting and excess Acknowledgements are dropped. The paper concludes that forward TCP throughput can be enhanced through careful management of the Acknowledgements in the reverse path.
