Abstract

This paper proposes a new method for estimating system-level load relief factors based on high-resolution fault recorder data. The method infers the system load response after a contingency by re-arranging the swing equation and substituting in the measured (actual) values. The main appeal of the proposed method is that it does not require any subjective inference on the amount of load change during frequency excursion events, as it employs high quality time-synchronized data. The method is tested using real contingency data from a real power system in Western Australia.
