Abstract
This paper describes the implementation of the Australian Academic Research Library Network (AARLIN) at La Trobe University Library. AARLIN aims to be a national virtual research library system that will provide unmediated, personalised and seamless end-user access to the collections and resources of Australian libraries and document delivery services. The authors identify the background tasks, including a survey of researchers of the pilot project, decisions for the technical side of the project, the issues faced by the Library in introducing and promoting a new service, and the response of University researchers to the AARLIN concept. The paper has a focus on end user training and acceptance. The authors also describe the impact on library staff of introducing a totally new library service.
