Integrating computer literacy and communication skills
Australian Communication Conference (Melbourne, Victoria)
1996
Abstract
Both computer literacy and communication skills are becoming increasingly important in academic life and beyond. However, although general 'literacy’ courses may teach the basics of how to use word processors, spreadsheets and so on, students may never see the relevance of the techniques to their particular field of study and so may be unable to successfully transfer the skills they learn to the rest of their studies. This paper describes a practical solution to this problem, in the form of a print-based study module that integrates basic computing skills with communication and analysis skills that are widely applicable to many different fields of study.
