Abstract

Diets containing soluble non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) and resistant starch (RS) have been shown to increase both hindgut fermentation and the incidence of swine dysentery (SD) (Pluske et al., 1996). The aim: of this study was to investigate the effects of extrusion (to reduceRS) and exogenous enzyme addition (to reduce soluble NSP) to a wheat based diet, on the extent of fermentation in the large intestine and on expression of SD.
