Abstract
This paper presents the process control switching of a simulated industrial five-effect evaporator process. The switching occurs in response to the 24-hour course of general disturbance profiles, which is captured using the sequential version of the Dynamic Operability Framework. The framework accommodates the analysis through solving the dynamic MINLP problem associated with the process control structure within an optimisation window that progresses sequentially over the time horizon. The analysis justifies a four-effect operation and a multi-loop control strategy to achieve the optimum process economy.
