Abstract

As business organizations strive like never before to survive and grow, attracting and retaining managerial talent has assumed critical importance. Women constitute a large, important and much underutilized talent pool. Despite the growing realization that women managers' nurturing style of leadership is effective in managing diversity and fostering creativity, challenges exist at individual, organizational and societal levels. The paper presents a brief review of the issues constraining women's entry into and growth in the management profession and also identifies select practices that would help remedy the situation. The international evidence provided by earlier studies is compared to the experience of Ethiopia.
