Abstract

Mobile technologies have not yet become mainstream in university and school classes, and yet their potential to be used in pedagogically innovative ways is immense. With many new technologies, however, the tendency is to use them in more conventional ways—with many teachers reverting to conventional methods of teaching that fail to adapt to the possibilities that these new technologies present. Mobile technologies afford the design and creation of truly innovative authentic learning designs. In this presentation, the theoretical foundations of this approach will be explored. Authentic tasks and activities will be demonstrated as a means to organise learning environments where students can engage with mobile and online technologies in innovative and effective ways.
