Abstract

Recognising the failure of past approaches to halt biodiversity decline, Australia is shifting its emphasis from single species and communities to whole landscapes. The challenge is immense, requiring not only more information, but also new ways of organising and making decisions. In this seminar, Sarah Clement analyses biodiversity governance in the Australian Alps and Tasmanian Midlands. These contrasting regions provide insight into dilemmas in public and private landscapes, where individuals and organisations must act together to address diverse causes of biodiversity decline. Both regions face transformation. This presentation details governance options to navigate transition and enable better biodiversity outcomes.
