Abstract
Mobile technologies have great potential to be used as powerful learning tools in education and training. Most students have access to mobile phones and /or digital music players that could be used in learning contexts, but many educators are unsure how to utilize them to best effect in their classes. There is little point in introducing mobile devices in classes if they are simply used as technology for technology’s sake without consideration of appropriate pedagogy. An alternative approach is to use mobile technologies to solve problems and perform authentic and realistic tasks. In this presentation, critical characteristics of authentic learning tasks will be described together with strategies and examples for the effective use of mobile devices in education and training.
