Abstract
In this presentation, the authors introduce the key ideas and methods developed in Shakespeare, Ecology and Adaptation: A Practical Guide (The Arden Shakespeare, 2025) through a combination of readings, visual materials and examples from scholarship, pedagogy and performance practice. The session explores how the book develops new tools for ecological engagement with Shakespeare, with particular attention to A Midsummer Night’s Dream King Lear and The Tempest. Designed for both ecocritical analysis and eco-performance, the book brings together early modern sources, original eco-tables, interviews with leading directors and adaptable strategies for climate-conscious staging. The presentation demonstrates how these approaches can function as both practical resources and critical frameworks for students, teachers and artists working toward environmental and multispecies justice.
