Abstract
In this talk I will introduce "Markoff words" as certain factors appearing in bi-infinite words satsifying the "Markoff condition". I will show that these words coincide with a particular family of palindromes called "central words", yielding a new characterization of "Christoffel words". The talk is intended for a general mathematical audience. The talk will be given in english.
