This dataset provides collated and calculated morphological and aerodynamic parameters for five Australian cockatoo species: Carnaby's cockatoo (Zanda latirostris), Baudin's cockatoo (Zanda baudinii), Glossy black-cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus lathami), Red-tailed black-cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus banksii), and Pink cockatoo (Lophochroa leadbeateri). It includes data on body dimensions, mass, wing dimensions, wingspan, wing area, aspect ratio, wing loading, wingbeat frequency, maximum flight speed, and estimated most efficient flight speed.
The dataset supports the flight dynamics and morphological analyses presented across five species-specific Renewable Energy Research Initiative (RERI) reports addressing the potential impacts of onshore renewable energy infrastructure on these cockatoo species. The reports cover Carnaby's cockatoo, Baudin's cockatoo, South-eastern glossy-black cockatoo, Forest red-tailed black cockatoo, and Pink cockatoo, and use these data to inform assessment of species' flight characteristics and potential susceptibility to renewable energy infrastructure impacts.
