Dataset for Ottaviani (XXXX) Size ain’t age: decoupled and interacting effects of height and age on functional traits in grassland plants Height (cm), age (years), radial growth (μm), vessel size (μm2), area of storage (% of section area) and belowground dry matter content (BDMC; mg g-2) for individuals of eight perennial non-clonal plant species. While some of our findings follow our expectations, such as height and age in grassland plants are decoupled and older plants grow slower, detectable at the interspecific and intraspecific level, we also found that resource-conservation traits tend to be uncorrelated with either height or age and follow highly species-specific patterns.
