Abstract

Education & Educational Research Social Sciences
This Special Issue of Educational Research called for papers focusing on supporting the needs of vulnerable children and young people and ensuring their access to education and attainment. The term ‘vulnerable’ covered a wide range of young people who may be at risk of not accessing education/non-attainment and included both school and non-school focused support. Suggested examples included: teenage parents; young offenders/students involved in criminal activity; looked after children/children in public care; some minority ethnic students, e.g. Gypsy/Travellers/Roma, asylum seekers and refugees; students excluded from school, or those who drop out; and students who have caring responsibilities. Papers that focused on children at risk, children in need and other broader issues of social inclusion were also welcomed.
