Airborne dispersion of pollutant

Abstract
A two-dimensional wind field analysis was carried out on observations taken from an anemometer network situated in the Kwinana area of Western Australia. This analysis illustrates the turning of the wind as a function of surface roughness, and highlights periods of air pollution potential.
The third dimension of the atmosphere was investigated through the development of a tethered sonde featuring a commercially available 6 channel transmitter/receiver. This development is described in detail and observations taken under stable conditions reveal the presence of a local easterly flow within 150m of the surface.
These results are combined with an analysis of airborne dispersion of pollutant to produce an air quality model for the Kwinana area. This model illustrates the dispersion of pollutant across Cockburn Sound.
