Abstract

Total Factor Productivity (TFP) growth is based on the growth accounting methodology pioneered by Robert Solow (1956) which peaked in the 1970s. It was not until the early 1990s that the TFP growth accounting framework came back to examine the East Asian experience. The aim of the thesis is twofold: (1) to review the literature on TFP growth accounting framework and (2) is to empirically estimate TFP growth on 21 developed OECD countries from 1996-2004. In doing so, the thesis will attempt to update the literature on TFP growth.
