Abstract
Tourism is a recent and rapidly expanding phenomenon in Bukit Lawang. Since foreign tourist numbers of 2,000 people were first recorded in 1985, the tourist industry has averaged an annual growth rate of 28%. By 1991, foreign tourist arrivals totalled over 16,000 people.
