Abstract

Oxidative stress induced by reactive oxygen species (ROS) is a major cause of male infertility. The sperm plasma membrane is vulnerable to oxidative stress being rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids. Equine spermatozoa appear relatively more resistant to membrane peroxidation than sperm of other domestic animals; however, cryopreservation increases susceptibility to lipid peroxidation [1].
