Abstract
Australia altered its cargo liability regime in 1998 by modifying the Hague Visby Rules, aiming to make it more "cargo friendly". This article examines some of the changes and points out shortfalls in the areas of extension of the carrier's period of responsibility and liability for delay. The article argues that urgent changes are needed to ensure the amendments live up to their promise.
