Abstract

1. A very high correlation was found between haemoglobin concentration and haematocrit in animals considered as representative of the adult trophic phase. 2. The haematocrit and haemoglobin concentrations undergo marked fluctuations during the life cycle of the anadromous sea lamprey. 3. The lowest mean haematocrit (11.2%) was found in animals that had just completed a long non-trophic period following the initiation of metamorphosis, whereas maximum values (44.7%) were recorded in early upstream migrants. 4. The data have been considered in the conte
