Abstract
The future of primary care research depends on attracting interested clinicians and non-clinical scientists to our universities, and providing them with high-quality research training. In the UK, the research strategy (Department of Health, 2006) developed through the National Institute for Health Research (www.nihr.ac.uk) has provided a framework through which health practitioners can engage in research via research networks.
