Educational foundations ‐ or diversions?
Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education, Vol.1(1), pp.49-57
1980
Abstract
The present journal is committed to the study of the "socio-cultural foundations of education." That is a brave act, given that there are mounting pressures to reduce the emphasis given to such studies in teacher education. I propose to provide a justification for the kinds of study implied by the term, both in teacher preparation and in educational research, while advocating an alternative terminology, since I regard the term "foundations" as both a political and epistemiological liability.
