Abstract

The experiment was conducted in two locations which are Bashiqa and Al-Hamdaniya, during the winter agricultural season 2020-2021 in order to study the effect of time nitrogen fertilizer application on the growth and yield components traits of four bread wheat varieties (Triticum aestivum L.). Randomized block design (RCBD) was used with split block design. Nitrogen fertilizer was applied on four levels (Tillering, Stem elongation, 1/3 at Tillering + 2/3 at stem elongation, in addition to the control treatment). While the second factor included four varieties of bread wheat (Al-Jawahiri, Tal Afar, Bengal and Latifah). The time of nitrogen fertilizer application were distributed in the main plots and the varieties in the subplots. The results indicate that there are significant differences between the two factors of the study for most of growth and yield traits under both experiment locations. The results indicate the superiority of the Bengal variety in terms of Days number of vegetative growth, thousand grain weight, number of spikes, the harvest index, the grain yield, and nitrogen use efficiency.
