Abstract

With vascular plants grown under saline conditions, waterlogging may affect the regulation of Na+ and Cl- uptake and the growth of shoots and roots. Examples are given of non-halophytes in which waterlogging enhances the net uptake of Na+ and Cl- to the shoots, thereby causing shoot senescence and adverse effects on growth.
