Abstract

Global electronic networking is one of the world's most rapidly growing technologies. It provides access to people and information on a worldwide scale and opens doors to new work practices. It is currently dominated by research and education users and it is not readily available to industry in Australia. This, together with its rapid growth and clear potential, is causing people to think about more commercial structures for its management. This paper sets out why the growth in electronic networking can be expected to continue and discusses some of the social and policy aspects arising from this growth.
