Abstract

Electrophoresis on "Cellogel" strips shows that during metamorphosis a complete change occurs in the haemoglobins of all three Australian species of lampreys. The haemoglobin electrophoretic patterns of the two closely related species, Mordacia mordax and Mordacia praecox, are identical. These patterns differ markedly from those found in Geotria australis, suggesting that Mordacia and Geotria are not closely related.
