Family law: Is it laws or families that need reforming?
Developing Practice: The Child Youth and Family Work Journal, Vol.15, pp.5-7
2006
Abstract
2006 will see what are touted by the federal Attorney-General as the most significant reforms to the Family Law system in 30 years. Parliamentary debate over the reforms makes it clear that everyone in government is convinced that legislative change is not only essential, but the answer to the family law ‘problem’. Precisely what, then, is the ‘problem’? And will these reforms – unlike those made in 1996 – make a difference?
