Growth, segmentation and maturation of the British horse and sheep strains of Echinococcus granulosus in dogs
International Journal for Parasitology, Vol.7(4), pp.281-285
1977
Abstract
Development of the British horse and sheep strains of Echinococcus granulosus in dogs was compared. Growth of the two strains did not differ significantly, but segmentation and maturation were both retarded in the horse strain compared with that of the sheep strain. These results emphasise the existence of physiological differences between the two strains, and illustrate the independence of somatic growth, somatic differentiation and germinal differentiation in vivo. The ability of both strains to enter crypts of Lieberkühn as early as 6 h p.i. was observed.
