Introduction of robots in Ford Australia
Information Technology for Development, Vol.4(2), pp.243-252
1989
Abstract
The introduction of robots in Ford Australia is a continuing process but for purposes of description and analysis the setting up of the door line in the Broadmeadows factory can be treated as a relatively distinct episode.
The door line is a ‘flexible manufacturing line’. In the past, the choice has been between a highly automated but dedicated line and a manual but more flexible line. Flexible manufacturing makes it possible to combine automation with flexibility. The door line is flexible in that production can be quickly changed from one type of car door to another.
