Abstract

The neurologic examination is important for localizing and assessing the severity of neurologic disease. Separation of intracranial and spinal disease is the first step, followed by more complete assessment of neurologic function. This guide focuses on the localization of spinal cord disease and illustrates the use of spinal cord reflexes to determine the site of damage. Interpretation of the examination to assess the severity of disease is also described. An examination work sheet is included to facilitate the clinician in examination of animals with neurologic dysfunction.
