Abstract
New Age travellers are seen as people living alongside nature or as outsiders living off the state by the media but sociologists must not rely too heavily on media presentations. Travellers are not one type of people and they have many different reasons why they travel. There is some differentiation on the road, with those owning the largest vehicles having more status. They face difficulty when trying to resolve problems on their sites as the police are unwilling to intervene. Research into the New Age travellers was undertaken over a period of nine months in 1993.
