Abstract

Transport consumes 60 per cent of world oil production, and road transport dominates. More and more commodity production is occurring in integrated international manufacturing and agricultural networks totally dependent on cheap transport. International freight transport is growing rapidly. Yet the transport industry fails to give future fuel supply the attention it warrants, in particular when planning infrastructure. This paper outlines what lies behind the oil price roller coaster and what does it mean for the future of transport.
