Abstract

Density results for dilute aqueous solutions of six alcohols with a saturated cycle in the molecule (cyclopentanol, cyclohexanol, cycloheptanol, cyclooctanol, cyclohexylmethanol, and 2-cyclohexylethanol) obtained using a flow vibrating-tube densimeter are presented together with partial molar volumes at infinite dilution (standard partial molar volumes, View the MathML sourceVm,2∘) calculated from the measured values. The measurements were performed at temperatures from T = 298 K up to T = 573 K at pressure close to the saturated vapour pressure of water and at pressures (15 and 30) MPa. Trends in homologous series are discussed and group contributions to standard partial molar volume are evaluated. Values of an analogue of isothermal compressibility, View the MathML sourceκT,2∘=-(1/Vm,2∘)(∂Vm,2∘/∂p)T, are also evaluated and compared with those for aliphatic and aromatic monohydric alcohols.
