Abstract
This paper examines the theory and history of cultural policy, a discourse from the Enlightenment threatened by the new rights discourse on creative industries. This discourse is the most interesting and productive answer to the humanities’ relevance crisis and the emergence of a knowledge society. It then offers a brief case study on related environmental issues, with the scope of underlining the risks that arise when industrial priorities rule over cultural ones.
