Relevance of introspection on recognising Augustus DeMorgan’s logic laws

Abstract
Recent studies have suggested that certain personality traits like neuroticism and extraversion are semantically related to the processing of syllogisms. The aim of the present work is to extend such insight concerning the relationship between personality and reasoning and to explore a possible interaction between introspection and two rules of logic known as DeMorgan's laws. These laws establish formal equivalences for statements that include the negation of conjunctions and the negation of disjunctions. Additionally, this contribution tests several hypotheses concerning the interchangeability of paper and pencil procedures with virtual questionnaires to evaluate reasoning processes. The results of the present contribution suggest that: i) paper and pencil and on-line questionnaires generate homogeneous patterns of response for reasoning tasks that include DeMorgan´s laws, ii) introspection quality explains 43.2% of the DeMorgan´s laws recognition, wich corresponds to a large effect size, and iii) such linear explanation is better for the negation of disjuncions law than for the negation of conjunctions law. Contributions and limitations of these findings are discussed. Further research questions are finally proposed.
