Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyse the fossil human rests stored in the paleontological naturalistic museum of San Daniele Po (Cremona, northern Italy). Eight human skulls have been recovered between 2001 and 2005 during exceptional low-water seasons, along the course of the Po River, between Polesine Parmense (Parma) and Torricella del Pizzo (Cremona). The specimens are part of the anthropological collection of Quaternary mammals of the same river. All the samples are in a good state of preservation, which suggests a low rate of fluvial transport. The generally advanced degree of fossilisation, the presence, in some cases, of characters of “archaism”and the optimal state of conservation render these fossils an interesting local prehistoric patrimony.
