Seasonal differences in the diets of small birds in the karri forest understorey.

Abstract
Similar numbers of the same species of small insectivorous birds were caught in the understorey of a wet sclerophyll forest during both May and September. The diet of each species was essentially similar at both times of year, except that more flying insects and spiders were eaten in September and more ants in May. Most birds had more generalized diets during the September breeding season and therefore showed greater diet overlap at this time. Some birds (eg. honeyeaters and scrubwrens) may be forced to feed on those items not exploited by the rest of the insectivore community.
