Abstract

The authors present a response to Patrick Wolfe's review of their book 'Dark Side of the Dream' (Meanjin 2/1992). They suggest that Wolfe's proposal to have an epistemological no-go zone around Aboriginal meanings which semioticians should not enter is wrong in that it creates a rift between history and semiotics, and also undermines the struggle of academics against racist elements in Australia.
